PowerMACS 4000

Hardware memory component obsolescence and replacement procedures

Introduction

The original supplier of the internal memory component for the PowerMACS 4000, has stopped production and will not re-start production of this device. A redesign of the hardware has been done with a new flash memory with the same performance requirements. Due to the end of component production for internal memory, new application software must be installed to support the new flash-memory chip.

Recommendation

For customers that need to replace a TC in an existing system, we recommend to upgrade to the latest software.

  • APPLICATION SOFTWARE 10.9.14 HF2 or later on PowerMACS 4000 World 10
  • APPLICATION SOFTWARE 7.6.2 HF3 BETA100 on PowerMACS 4000 World 7 - Using 7.6.2 HF3 BETA100 requires all controllers in the system to run on the same BETA100 version. No update of ToolsTalk is required, ToolsTalk PM 7.6.2 can still be used.

For major customer releases BETA100 versions will be available. Those BETA100 releases can be used within a system with the same release number. That means if the SW version and HotFix number are matching with the BETA100 version.

Both software version and hotfix number need to match

10.9.4 HF1 does not communicate with 10.9.4 HF2 BETA100

10.9.5 HF2 and 10.9.5 HF2 BETA100 can communicate with eachother and work together in a system.
