SQS At Home – Tool Interlock

3 minute(s) to read

The Scalable Quality Solution (SQS) is Atlas Copco’s error-proofing software for product assembly processes.

With comprehensive, user-friendly features such as step by step operator guidance and part verification, SQS detects deviations and oversight at their source. This software solution aligns with Industry 4.0, combining software, hardware, and Smart Connected accessories that provide full traceability to your line and reduce costs of rework and scrap.

Further, SQS drives digital communication and Smart Connected Assembly with a tool interlock feature that boosts quality, uptime and productivity during assembly production for critical operations.

Tool Interlock: Brief background

When used in conjunction with a tightening controller such as the Power Focus 6000 (PF6000), SQS integrates with Smart Connected tools and ensures that the proper tool is enabled and the correct tightening program is selected before allowing tools to run. Offering ease of installation and flexibility in the selection of connecting devices, SQS’s tool interlock capabilities range from simple to highly complex.

Increased productivity and plant uptime

Through an automatic program or a specific job selection, SQS enables and disables DC electric tools and wrenches on the PF6000. SQS verifies that conditions relative to your particular product assembly processes are met before allowing interconnected tools to run. The self-sufficiency of the SQS software increases first yield pass rates, efficiency, and productivity in general. SQS supports the use of multiple controllers and communicates via Open Protocol.

High-level quality control for your processes

Working alongside the operator guidance feature, SQS’s tool interlock mechanism assists operators in selecting the correct controller and tool for the job, and it enables the tools only when they are needed during the production process. SQS ensures that the correct number of OK results have been completed per the Engineer’s design. Once completed, all data is collected through the Web UI.

Utilizing one simple interface, the Web UI provides full traceability for all products and workstations. Also included in the Web UI is a dashboard featuring real-time station information and an Event Log that lists critical station events. These events may consist of the loss of connection to a device, a locked tightening tool, and more.

Tool Interlock summarized

Atlas Copco’s SQS software solution is scalable. It eliminates operator error or oversight regardless of whether the program connects to one single station or oversees the entire process of your assembly line. Its flexible tool interlocking improves quality control and increases the overall efficiency and productivity of your assembly processes. This feature, along with other important features such as visual operator guidance and part verification, will bring your plant one step closer to Industry 4.0 and the Smart Connected future.
