Christina Ponnampalam of Marketing Support Executive - Industrial Air
Meet Christina- one of our gold club employee
Imagine to my horror when I reported for duty in July 1982 only to find a small empty office, 2 chairs and a phone on one of the chairs. I was the Secretary to David TW Tan, who was the Supply & Service Manager. David Tan eventually became the first local Managing Director.
Challenges in a very new set-up – had to put the office in order, push the sales of equipment because the brand was not well-known, no marketing activities, etc. It took a long time for the first compressor to be sold. When times were bad, we went through no salary increment but without any staff retrenchment. We were looked after even years ago.
Moved forward to the Sales & Marketing Department and when offered a job in Logistics as Supply Executive which included medical benefits for my two children aged 1 and 5. Almost gave up after a week in Logistics as I was unable to get used to the system. Eventually, I enjoyed the challenges in delivery and stock, and I was here for about 15 years.
Moved back to Sales & Marketing as a Marketing Support Executive in 2010 and presently working for Industrial Air.
Times have changed now, we have more staff, advanced technology, system, and processes in place that keep on changing. After almost 40 years in Atlas Copco, I have for the past 5 and half years working as contract staff and I am enjoying my work with the colleagues around me.
To the new colleagues, you will be surprised by the way we work and the processes in place. It might be difficult to adapt, I would encourage you to persevere and you will succeed. Times have changed and will keep on changing. This is a fantastic multinational company to work with and there are lots of opportunities to grow.
