Pharmaceutical customer lowers energy consumption by 8%
A global pharmaceutical company contacted Atlas Copco to analyze the compressed supply problems in their packaging process. After a technical assessment Atlas Copco was able to fix the problems and lower the customer's energy consumption by 8%.
The Challenge
The Customer experienced interruptions and quality issues in the packaging process of his pharmaceutical products due to pressure fluctuations in their compressed air net. They contacted Atlas Copco to analyze the problem and provide a solution for a stable and reliable output pressure.
The Solution
4 Atlas Copco Z compressors by installing an Optimizer 4.0 central controller. To make the oldest Z machine compatible with the Optimizer 4.0 we upgraded the compressor controller.
Thanks to the Optimizer 4.0 the pressure in the packaging process stabilized and dropped with 0.5 bar as shown on the Optimizer screens below.
Before - Pressure 7.66 bar
After - Pressure 7.16 bar
The Outcome
The air net pressure was stabilized, and a 0.5 bar pressure reduction was achieved immediately after commissioning the central controller.
As SMARTLINK monitoring demonstrated, the installation's SER (Specific Energy Requirement) went down from 539 J/l to 497 J/l, saving 8% of electricity. This corresponds to a CO2 reduction of 21.5 tons/year.
Annual energy cost savings amount to 7 000 USD/year. The central controller also increases machine lifetime and production uptime
