How to restart your power generator after period of inactivity

Check out these 15 steps in our service checklist to start up your mobile power generator smoothly and safely!

Our generators are built to last. Even when they’re not running. These machines are perfectly capable of coping with downtime or periods of inactivity. But to make sure your generator starts up smoothly and efficiently, check off these 15 steps in our maintenance checklist:

  • Measure the condition of the generator coolant with your refractometer tool and PH Meter and top up with coolant if needed.
  • Adjust and test the brake system
  • Perform a visual check of the wheels and the tire pressure, to replace and/or adjust where necessary.
  • Test the emergency stop.
  • Test the condition of the fuel injectors.
  • Replace the generator engine oil as well as the fuel filters if needed.
  • Perform a visual check of your air filters and clogging indicator – replace filters if needed.
  • Dust clean or jet wash the radiator/intercooler.
  • Drain and/or clean the fuel tank water and sediments
  • Perform a visual check of the electrical cables and harness for damages or loose tips.
  • Check the condition of the hoses and clamps for leakages or possible ageing.
  • Check the battery electrolyte level as well as voltage.
  • Inspect and grease or clean the battery terminals if needed.
  • Check the alternator main power cable condition and connection points.
  • Measure the alternator insulation.
  • Now, you’re ready for a smooth and safe restart! Once you’ve checked off everything, perform a load test in 4 steps with each step adding 25% of load (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%).
