Atlas Copco X-Air⁺ 750-25 portable compressor: Redefining drilling efficiency in the UK and France
03 December 2024
Imagine a portable air compressor compact enough to fit on a standard trailer yet robust enough to power through the toughest geothermal drilling projects. That’s the X-Air+ 750-25, Atlas Copco’s latest innovation in its DrillAir family.
A compact powerhouse for the toughest jobs
Launched in early 2024, Atlas Copco's compact, powerful DrillAir compressor, the X-Air+ 750-25, is a game-changer in medium-depth drilling applications. With a powerful flow of 750 cubic feet per minute (CFM) and a maximum pressure of 25 bar, this portable compressor sets a new benchmark for efficiency, delivering over 10% more than its predecessor. At under 3,500 kg, the X-Air+ 750-25 eliminates the need for heavy-duty trailers or low loaders, making it a cost-effective solution. It is the ideal solution for industries such as water well drilling, ground engineering, geothermal drilling, and foundation drilling.
Two recent applications in the UK and France illustrate how this compact powerhouse is redefining drilling standards in vastly different environments.
Revolutionizing mid-depth drilling in the UK
In Aberdeen, Scotland, Filpumps, a leading water well drilling company became the first UK operator to adopt the X-Air+ 750-25. Initially considering a larger machine, Filpumps found the perfect match in this compact yet powerful compressor after consulting with Atlas Copco. One of the key advantages of the X-Air+ 750-25 is its compact size and transportability.
We initially considered a larger machine. But after assessing Filpumps' requirements, we realized that the newly launched X-Air+ 750-25 was a perfect match for their drilling operations. This compressor is a game-changer in terms of both performance and efficiency.
"It’s small, powerful, and incredibly efficient," adds Bennett. "Filpumps will be able to tow it easily, without needing additional trailers or low loaders, making it a cost-effective solution for their business."
Sacrificial anode installation at seafront LNG terminals in France
In the salt-laden air of Fos-sur-Mer, France, the X-Air+ 750-25 is tackling an entirely different challenge. Aquaforage, a French water well drilling company, has deployed the compressor to protect key pipelines at three major liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals.
The compressor is used to install sacrificial anodes at the bottom of boreholes to prevent underground pipelines from corroding. Sacrificial anodes, typically made of metals like zinc or magnesium, act as a deliberate target for corrosion, preserving the structural integrity of the surrounding pipes.
The high salt concentration at these seafront locations accelerates corrosion, posing a serious risk to pipelines. The X-Air+ 750-25 is key to this special application, providing compressed air to clean the boreholes and power the drilling rig for precise placement of the anodes.
Its lightweight, towable design and resilience in demanding environments made it an obvious choice. “This compressor combines power and mobility, crucial for Aquaforage’s operations across multiple coastal sites,” adds Mohamed Ait Omar, Sales Engineer for Atlas Copco France. “It’s easily towable and robust enough to handle the salty, dusty environments with ease.”
Ready for new frontiers
From Scotland’s rolling hills to France’s rugged coastline, the powerful X-Air+ 750-25 mobile compressor for drilling proves its versatility and reliability in the field. Compact, towable, and remarkably efficient, it’s redefining what’s possible in the drilling industry.
Wherever there’s a need for portable, high-performance air compressors, the X-Air+ 750-25 will be there—pushing boundaries and setting new standards one project at a time.
