Welcome to the new and improved Industrial Location SpotPoint (ILS) 2.0!

The value of Industrial Location SpotPoint 2.0

5 minute(s) to read

We are proud to announce that Industrial Location SpotPoint – ILS has some new upgrades! ILS, one of our Industrial location solutions, is Atlas Copco’s wireless, bolt-level process security system. Since it’s been upgraded, it now incorporates passive tags on the tool and part along with a receiver to locate the real-time position of the tags! The new passive locators have a variety of benefits, which will be detailed in this article. With the new advancements to Industrial Location SpotPoint, it is able to better serve operators and improve the operator experience.

So, how different is ILS 2.0 from ILS 1.0? In this article, we will cover the new upgrades and features of Industrial Location Spotpoint 2.0 which include: the number of tool orientations now available, reduced power consumption of the tool, compatibility with the latest Industrial Location Guidance (ILG) software for improved error-proofing in assembly, and an increase in the number of tools that can be used per workstation.

All about the tags

We have made some major changes to the locating tags. Now, the size of the tags has been significantly reduced, and they have been designed so that they no longer require power. By making these changes, Industrial Location SpotPoint provides operators with increased flexibility in production.

Previously, only two tags could be managed per tool. Now that they are smaller, more can be placed, resulting in a number of added benefits! The smaller tags take up less space, allowing operators to place several on one tool. By being able to incorporate more locators, the tool is more versatile, and now we can track the tool in all its orientations. This means that tools being tracked are ergonomically designed to be used by right- and left-handed operators alike. This grants operators more freedom during production to use the tools in any way that is most comfortable to them.

Another added benefit is that the infrared light that is used to locate the tools and parts is now located in the receiver. This allows the tags to act like mirrors and reflect the infrared light back up the receiver. This feature means that the newly-designed locating tags are ‘passive’ and require no power while in use, enabling operators to use multiple locators and providing increased uptime and flexibility on the line.

Improved operator guidance for increased productivity

Industrial Location SpotPoint is also compatible with the same software as our Industrial Location Guidance solution, enabling operator guidance during assembly. This allows for an improved error-proofing experience for operators using battery-powered tools. The error-proofing of ILS 2.0 is optimal in cases where hand-held, low torque applications with a good line of sight are applicable. With the integration of ILG’s multiplatform software, you can expect improved production quality while experiencing the flexibility of wireless solutions.

The quantity of tools that can be used per workstation has significantly increased as well. Previously, only two tools could be used in a workstation. Now, up to six tools can be used. This allows more freedom and increased productivity to be accomplished in one station. We’ve also made it easier to add one tag per pallet/part in moving lines. By making this process more simple, operators are able to be more productive on the line.

To sum it up

Industrial Location SpotPoint aligns with Industry 4.0 now more than ever! Its error-proofing software is more accurate, and the tool tags are improved. Now that the tags are smaller, more can fit on one tool, providing better tool versatility between jobs and the operators using it. ILS 2.0 is working even harder to boost operational productivity and to ensure production quality!
