REMAN vs. REFURB: What's the Difference?
Suppose you are shopping for a new compressor or engine but do not want to spend the amount it costs to purchase a new machine. Remanufactured or refurbished equipment is the way to go. Both programs are fully tested before being sold or resold and come with warranties, offering you a good ROI.
Remanufacturing
Remanufacturing is a standardized industrial process in which a compressor's core is returned to a serviceable condition allowing it to perform the same as-new or better, yielding a fully warranted product. It is a process that combines rebuilding of the product to the specifications of the original manufactured product using a combination of reused, repaired, and new parts.
Atlas Copco takes these remanufactured units and offers customers the opportunity to replace their old compressor or engine with the REMAN version. This new remanufactured compressor or engine has been restored to factory conditions and specifications equal to your old compressor or engine.
Our REMAN program gives you the ability to work without any downtime offering maximum productivity while getting a 2-year warranty on your "like-new" machine.
Refurbishing is restoring your current compressor or engine to its original condition. Atlas Copco provides your old compressor a new life with restored factory conditions and new unique digital features, with an upgrade equal to the REMAN program.
A feature we offer is FleetLink, which allows customers to view their upcoming service requirements based on running hours and status, and a QR code links to Power-Connect where you can view spare part books and buy spare parts via shop online view your machine details.
To regain some benefits of a new machine, refurbishment offers a more customizable scope of work from after cooler installation through element or engine replacement. We include repairs on major systems of a compressor and yearly maintenance with fluids.
The differences between Remanufacturing and Refurbishing can be challenging to understand without taking a closer look. Below are some key differences when it comes to the two different programs:
- A remanufactured product will have all the components replaced on it, all to the new specification, while refurbished products only have the failed components replaced.
- The service history is considered with a refurbished machine, but a remanufactured machine is more about completely taking apart the equipment and starting new.
- The refurbishment process allows you to retain ownership of a specific asset.
When it comes down to selecting between the two programs, look at your needs and see what will fit you best. Hopefully, you now have a better idea of the programs and what to look at deciding to refurbish or remanufacture your compressor or engine.
