Reliable pressure testing equipment for gas pipeline in Almaty region, Kazakhstan

Successful pipeline pressure testing thanks to Atlas Copco Rental Kazakhstan

When a service company in Kazakhstan's dynamic oil and gas industry needed to perform a crucial pressure test on part of the state gas pipeline in the Almaty region, they knew exactly where to turn. Having worked with Atlas Copco Rental Kazakhstan in the past, the company was confident we would be able to deliver the highly specialized equipment needed for the job.

Customer challenge

The customer needed specialized equipment to perform a crucial pressure test on a 60-km gas pipeline.

Our solution

Atlas Copco Rental provided powerful air compressors, boosters, and skilled engineers for the project.

The result

The pressure test was completed on time with high efficiency, allowing the customer to meet deadlines and continue operations smoothly.

Meeting the challenge with the right equipment

Testing a 60-km section with a pipeline diameter of 520 mm is a challenging endeavor. The service company entrusted with this task lacked the necessary equipment to handle this complex operation, which is when Atlas Copco Rental stepped in to provide a set of powerful oil-injected diesel-driven air compressors and boosters. The rented equipment included one XRVS 946 compressor and two XRVS 476 compressors, along with two B7-42 diesel-driven boosters. These machines were essential to achieving the necessary pressure levels required for the pipeline test. In addition to the equipment, we also supplied two highly skilled service engineers to oversee the setup and provide technical support throughout the project’s duration.

Two-stage testing process

The pressure testing process was carried out in two distinct phases. Initially, the XRVS 946 compressor was used to purge the first kilometer of the pipeline, an essential step to ensure the pipeline was properly prepared for the full-scale pressure test. After the purging was completed, the entire 60-kilometer section of the pipeline was connected to the compressors. The system was then pressurized to 25 bar, at which point the boosters were activated to further increase the pressure to 61 bar. The XRVS 946 compressor supplied air to one of the boosters, while the two XRVS 476 compressors powered the second booster, allowing for efficient and steady pressure build-up.

On time and exceeding expectations

With the combination of Atlas Copco’s robust equipment and expert technical support, the customer successfully completed the pressure test within the project’s expected timeline of one month. The system delivered consistent performance, allowing the customer to meet their service requirements without any delays. The high flow rate of 63 m³/min and precise pressure control ensured that the test was conducted with the highest standards of safety and efficiency.

Smooth operations

Thanks to the reliable equipment and dedicated technical support, the customer was able to successfully complete the pipeline pressure test within the scheduled timeframe. This allowed them to meet their project deadlines and continue their operations smoothly. Atlas Copco's rental solutions not only provided the necessary equipment but also added value through expert support, ensuring that the job was done right, on time, and without complications.
