Work Experience at Atlas Copco UK
Here at Atlas Copco we welcome the opportunity to introduce future generations into our workplace. We have numerous student and graduate schemes and also enjoy welcoming work experience students in on a regular basis. This year the coronavirus pandemic has meant that this has been almost impossible for us to facilitate.
However one of our employees, Annette Howard from our QSHE team, asked if her nephew Matthew, aged 16, could spend a day during his school holiday working alongside her to gain some work experience. Annette and Matthew are in a support bubble and followed strict COVID measures whilst working together from home.
We caught up with Matthew to see what he thought about his day working at Atlas Copco.
“Given the current COVID-19 restrictions I was pleased to be able to gain some work experience with Atlas Copco, albeit in a remote working environment. Whilst having a workstation set up on a breakfast bar may not offer all of the same experiences as an office environment, I still believe that I have gained transferable skills and a valuable insight into the health and safety aspects of working life through my time with the QSHE Team.” Matthew said.
“By joining one of the regular QSHE Team meeting via Microsoft Teams, I was able to both meet the team virtually and gain a good understanding as to how Atlas Copco is adapting to the challenging environment created by Covid-19, while still protecting their employees.
Thank you to Atlas Copco and the QSHE Team for providing the flexibility that allowed me to complete some work experience despite the challenging circumstances currently faced by everyone.”
