Ollie's Journey
From year-in-industry student to Business Development Engineer
Ollie Ford joined Atlas Copco as a year-in-industry student in 2018. After graduating, he was welcomed back to the company to work in a customer and marketing-focused role. Now, Ollie has taken on the role of a Business Development Engineer. We took the opportunity to speak to Ollie to learn more about his experience with Atlas Copco.
Congratulations on your new job role – can you tell us a little bit more about what you will be doing?
My new role is moving out of the office and into the field. I will be working with our sales team and distributors, particularly in the south of the UK to help grow sales of Industrial Gas equipment.
You started your journey at Atlas Copco as a Year in Industry student – can you share your journey with us?
My journey with Atlas Copco started in 2018 when I did my placement year at university. The placement role was very analytical looking after reporting on Power BI, Excel & C4C to make sure monthly and daily sales stats were updated. I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and returned to the university to finish my degree. Since graduating in 2020 I was lucky enough to come back to Atlas Copco Compressors in a new role which was more customer and marketing-focused, very different to what I did on placement. I’ve enjoyed the variety this role brought about as each day provided something different. Whether that be speaking to customers and looking after the Compressor Store or working with our sales teams on telemarketing campaigns.
What are you most looking forward to in your next role?
I think most of all I’m looking forward to a new challenge, something completely different from my 2 previous roles. I’m also excited to get to visit customer sites and seeing our equipment in action, rather than just a name on a spreadsheet!
What advice would you give anyone thinking of starting a career with Atlas Copco?
The advice I would give would be to take every opportunity to learn that you can, Atlas are good at offering training, so take everything available to you. Also don’t be afraid to take up any offers for other projects you wouldn’t normally get involved in as it can be a good way to learn new skills
