A week in the life of .... our HR Team
This week we celebrate International Womens Day by taking a look at a week in the life of some of our employees here at Atlas Copco.
We are a HR Team with five members who look after everything in the employee lifecycle from hire to retire. Between us we have 56 years’ experience within the Atlas Copco Group. Our team members are: Joanna Heary, Michelle Williams, Charmaine Vassie, April Harbour, and Megan Gamble.
Monday
Monday morning Megan held a HR induction for 2 of our new employees. The induction takes them through the background of the company, key policies and procedures, employee benefits, and gives them an opportunity to raise any questions they may have on starting their journey with Atlas Copco. They get a tour of the building and to meet their new colleagues face to face. This week was the start of month-end processing; Megan finalised and distributed the payroll reports to Business Controllers and collated the figures for the People Management reporting for input into our Group reporting. Michelle also began month-end processes for the pension scheme; all employees need to be in line with the auto enrolment regulations, this includes new starters, leavers & changes – letters are then sent out accordingly. Contributions also need to be uploaded to Aviva each month.

Thursday
On Thursday there was a governance meeting to discuss the superannuation pension scheme; the committee reviewed the business plan, the risk register, and the timetable for the scheme. Michelle has also been collating information to prepare for the annual salary review process which takes place in March. Charmaine held a meeting with an employee to discuss their performance in their current job role, the progress they are making, and how they can enhance their performance through new learning and tackling tasks and responsibilities. They put together a performance development review plan.
April attended the first round of interviews with the recruiting manager. Following the first interview, personality profiles are sent to the potential candidates. Once the profiles are complete, the results are sent back and are reviewed prior to the second round of interviews. This helps HR and the recruiting manager analyse and understand personality traits, which can then be used to ask competency-based questions during the second interview.
Friday
A meeting was held with the Corporate Communications Manager to discuss ideas for the careers part of the website, to look at ordering new pull ups for careers events at schools and universities in line with our new Employee Value Proposition and corporate identity as the ‘Home of Industrial Ideas’ and also to view a new video which has been made where our employees are discussing how it feels to work at Atlas Copco. Charmaine, along with the Communications team, had a trial run of a Story Telling scheme for a new initiative to help bring to life working in the Group. The whole team completed HR:Link Master Data Management training, this is mandatory training for HR members within the Atlas Copco Group.
