Handled with Air: How Atlas Copco Rental managed one of the world’s biggest temporary air projects
June 22, 2017
Antwerp, Belgium, June 22, 2017: When a large industrial company faced production loss by the failure of their air installation, a call to Atlas Copco Rental was made. They needed an immense amount of compressed air: about 100.000m³/h of it, as soon as possible. You don’t have to be an industrial engineer to know that that’s an extreme challenge. But we were up for it.
We immediately activated our team of experts to draw up technical solutions, tune in service engineers and organize a machine flow from all over Europe. Within a week our installations and technicians started arriving from different countries and compressed air on-site could be produced.
There’s no such thing as an open and shut Rental project, and it certainly wasn’t the case here. After several months, the air demand had grown to a maximum of 250.000 m³/h. Our solution had to grow with it, so we added more and more machines to a total of a hundred, at which point additional space was even provided to place the extra installation. All this while production was still going strong, resulting in a “massive game of Tetris”, according to our local Country Manager.
More machines of course meant more technicians. Extra manpower flew in from all over Europe as well to a total of 23 technicians. They worked in shifts around the clock, to install and maintain our complete installation of compressors, fuel tanks, generators and accessories for one full year.
In the end, we were the only Rental company in Europe who could make it happen, thanks to our international teamwork, quality gear and specialists off- and on-site.
