Getting to know the latest joint simulation bench
Meet The STbench, Atlas Copco’s latest joint simulator bench.
It provides fast and accurate tests for tools. In a past blog post, we discussed the pros and cons of testing tools online or in the tool crib. The good news is a joint simulator bench like Atlas Copco’s STbench can help in both cases.
Furthermore, it’s important to understand how the STbench works and how it can make tool testing fast and accurate.
A multitasking bench above the rest
The idea behind a joint simulator bench is that it can replicate different joint rates simply; when the user selects the ideal rate from a computer screen.
This way, tools can be testing in their normal operating conditions without using the joint on the goods being manufactured.
Atlas Copco’s STbench simulates joints using a hydraulic braking system. This system is controlled in real-time by the computer on the STbench to create the perfect joint simulation during the test. As the system is hydraulic the STbench virtually has no delay in starting a new test.
A computer will control the braking rate and at the end of a run-down, the system is immediately ready to start a new rundown. This is because no mechanical part needs to be loosened at the end of each tightening.
In this way, STbench will easily cut testing times in half. How? Because these tests can be run on the production line avoiding the waste of time or removing the tool and replacing it with a back-up one.
Benefits of the STbench
The benefits of the STbench do not stop there. The top three biggest benefits include:
- The STbench shares the same software of the STpad and STpalm, so it can run all the different inspections that the user can run.
- The STbench (like the STpad) can communicate with our Power Focus 4000, Power Focus 6000 and Power Macs to calibrate the tools by comparing the reading from the tool with the ones from the STbench
- The STbench can be purchased with a docking station for a STpad instead of a computer so that operators can dock and undock the STpad from the STbench to use the STpad in areas with limited accessibility.
