Jeyavishnu Clothing saves on energy with screw blower technology from Atlas Copco

One of the country's largest dyeing units needed a solution that could address their energy consumption challenges. Atlas Copco's screw blower technology was the answer. The advanced design and energy-efficient operation delivered clear results.

Project overview

The textile industry is one of the largest consumers of water in India, accounting for a significant portion of the country's total industrial water usage. In textile applications like dyeing, bleaching, scouring, sizing/de-sizing, washing raw material and finishing, water is used extensively.

An average of almost 10,000 litres of water is necessary to produce 1 kilogram of cotton fabric. So addressing water usage in the textile industry is crucial for India's sustainable growth and the well-being of its people.

The challenge

A solution that could address our energy consumption challenges while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

Assessment & solution

Jeyavishnu Customer Success ETP
1. Demand: Currently customer undertakes 50 tons of fabric dyeing mainly catering to cottonade fibre. For the dyehouses the requirement to go for production is 2 million litters of water per day. Treating the water in an ETP calls for an aeration process where the blowers function 24*7 for the right microorganism growth which results in better water treatment.
2. After researching the market and understanding the benefit of shifting from lobe to screw blowers, Jeyavishnu achieved around 20-30% in energy savings.

Implementation & outcome

  • South Sale team representative GopalKrishnan observes, "Jeyavishnu approached us for a sustainable and energy-efficient solution for their effluent treatment plant. Jeyavishnu's plant has varying flow requirements ranging from 7500 m3/hr at full capacity and 1500 m3/hr at minimum capacity. Understanding this variable flow, the Atlas Copco Team recommended our screw blower equipped with Variable Speed Drive (VSD). Basis of our analysis, we identified that our screw blower could provide a flow of up to 8000 m3/hr, offering better efficiency compared to multiple lobe blowers, with savings of up to 30-40% due to efficient internal compression with our state-of-the-art screw element.
  • VSD operating machine provided more control over entire operation & maintained DO levels based on our production capacity.
  • After the upgrade from lobe to screw blowers,, the customer could see the impact of energy saving upto 25-30%
  • Atlas Copco was proud to be a part with the journey along with Jeyvishnu which was awarded the Green Award, by the TN Government in 2018

Summing up

The comprehensive range of our technologies tailored to meet the needs of wastewater treatment played a key role in the selection of Atlas Copco. From our screw blowers to centrifugal turbo blowers, we offer solutions capable of providing flows of up to 70,000 m3/hr. Our screw blowers specifically excel in effluent treatment setups, offering a wide array of features and benefits essential for textile plants, including enhanced efficiency and reliability.

Our screw blowers not only provide the capacity to replace outdated technologies but also allow for the reduction of units of lobe blowers required in ETPs. With a broader operating range than ever before, our solutions empower textile plants to achieve levels of performance previously unachievable.
