Machinist Trainee

In the role of Machinist Trainee, you are part of a large team that is creating cutting-edge technology. ACMTC is a custom, build-to-order environment where you’ll continually work on new products and create different parts each day. Those parts must meet print specifications while achieving quality and productivity objectives.  

The compensation for this position is $24.19 an hour. What you will own & improve:

  • Determine from reading blueprints how to machine material to print
  • Review machining operation and select the appropriate tooling
  • Plan sequence of machining steps
  • Review material alloy certifications and the size/condition of material that will be machined
  • Check and maintain the accuracy of measuring instruments before use
  • Fill out required paperwork supporting the machining operation
  • Deliver one-off custom-machined parts
  • Maintain a clean neat and safe work area
  • Ensure basic machine maintenance issues such as clean filters, appropriate oil and coolant

What we expect of you:

  • You are knowledgeable in the operation of at least one type of Manually Operated Mill or Lathe.
  • You have a good understanding of how to read blueprints and can use measurement instruments.    
  • Must be able to communicate effectively (speak, write and read) in English.
  • You have up to one year of Experience and/or college courses in the Machinist Field preferred but will train.
  • You have demonstrated excellence in interpersonal skills, are a self-starter with a positive make-happen attitude.
  • Ability to push, pull and lift up to 30 pounds unassisted.
  • Must pass pre-employment background, drug, and alcohol screening, and participate in Company’s Random-Drug Screening program.
  • You have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19

  • How to preserve basic maintenance levels and a safe work environment

Working Conditions

When in the Machine Shop, you must always wear steel toe-type boots or shoes and wear safety glasses.  You must be able to work in a noisy, oily/dusty machine shop environment. If long hair is worn, then it must be tied up and kept safely inside work shirt. No wearing of any jewelry, i.e., no wedding rings or watches.     

You will use a variety of tools and machining equipment (lathes, mills, drill presses, saws, hand grinds/drill motors, etc.), forklifts, cranes, and measuring devices.  

Essential Physical Tasks include; Able to push, pull and lift up to 30lbs, unassisted.  Able to walk & move about effectively in a Machine Shop Facility. Able to communicate effectively in English (including the ability to read Safety Signage).  

About the Team:

This role reports to the Machine Shop Supervisor and you will work as an integral part of a team of about 20 machinists. Interactions with the Engineering, Assembly and Test departments are common.
