Optimizer 4.0 enables customer to save 33 000 EUR per year
The largest producer of sintered technical ceramic and one of the largest suppliers of micronized zircon silicate, wanted to reduce their overall energy consumption and costs. To explore energy-saving opportunities, they reached out to Atlas Copco.
The Challenge
The customers compressor room consists of several Oil-Free units with a total power of 800 kW and an average SER (Specific Energy Requirement) of 0.12 kWh/m³. As they have a big plant, their compressors have a significant impact on their overall energy consumption and costs. Atlas Copco was contacted to explore energy-saving opportunities.
The Solution
After using SMARTLINK Energy Trial to analyze the current situation, a sales engineer from Atlas Copco went on site to investigate opportunities for energy savings.
As it was clear that the customer could save money on the large installation, Atlas Copco suggested to install an Optimizer 4.0 Central Controller via the Try & Buy program.
The Central Controller does not only reduce the unloaded hours of loaded and unloaded compressors, but also monitors the performance of VSD compressors. In short: it optimizes operation within the compressor room, based on several parameters.
The Outcome
The implementation of the Optimizer 4.0 stabilized and optimized the output flow and pressure of the compressors, resulting in a reduction of the SER from 0.12 kWh/m³ to 0.11 kWh/m³.
Thanks to this, the installation realized an annual energy saving of 132 000 kWh/year, equal to 33 000 EUR savings, and a CO2 reduction of 40 tons a year.
