25 Years of Dedication: Tom Kelly's Journey with Atlas Copco
In the dynamic world of industrial innovation, we often find remarkable stories of dedication and perseverance. Today, we're excited to share the journey of Tom Kelly, who has dedicated 25 years to Atlas Copco.
Tom's journey with Atlas Copco began in 1985, right out of college. He vividly recalls, "I was given the first Stand Alone PC (IBM) in the company. I was charged with building the first digital customer database and taking part in new form of marketing. Of course there was no internet and it also meant long hours printing out letters and flyers to be packed in envelopes for posting. Our connections to the factory in Belgium were completed by Telex which wasn’t far off morse code when looked at now.

Various Roles, One Passion
Throughout his tenure, Tom has worn many hats, primarily in the Service department. He shares;
My roles have revolved around service, including marketing, spare parts, and safety. I was delighted to be offered the Regional Service Manager role this year as a chance to put together all the different sides of the aftermarket role.
The Strength of Atlas Copco's Family
When asked about his longevity with the company, Tom credits the strong sense of belonging. He notes, "We're like one big family at Atlas Copco. This is why I've never considered leaving. You always feel supported in your role. I don’t think that I am alone in this if you look at the lengths of service with a lot of my colleagues. Something which a lot of other compnies can only dream of."
Embracing Technological Advancements
Tom highlights the significant growth within the Service Department during his time. He remarks, "From a small team based in Dublin, we've expanded to 18 strong engineers spread across the island. Technology connects us, enabling knowledge and training sharing among our team."
Cultural Transformation and Unity
As Atlas Copco evolved, so did its culture.
Technology isn't the only thing that's changed; the company's culture has transformed as well. New ideas and methods have been embraced while maintaining a cohesive organisation. I still smile when I hear a colleague, born in a different country, using a local phrase or sounding 'More Irish than the Irish themselves.'
Tom Kelly's 25-year journey with Atlas Copco symbolises the company's unwavering commitment to its employees and its continuous growth. It's a testament to the significance of a supportive company culture, embracing technological advances, and the enduring value of being part of a dedicated, united family within a global industry leader like Atlas Copco.
