System control

SYS 6000 system control

In harsh production environments, where adhesive systems have to perform around the clock, customers need high-quality systems that are easy to use. The microcontroller-based SYS 6000 from our product line SCA can be used with all common field bus systems. For easy operation, it can be controlled not only via mobile or remote panel, but also through a browser accessible web interface. At the same time, this system control offers a range of features to improve uptime, boost quality and reduce maintenance requirements.

SCA system controller for paint shop operations

The SCA system controller directs all main functions and components of paint shop sealing and dampening applications. It offers efficiency and traceability in high-performance production lines. Its modular design is easy to adapt to customer specifications and production conditions. A user-friendly menu system displays fundamental production status conditions such as conditioning and heating, meter fill levels, and material circulation. A signal trace tool provides visibility of all application parameters for fault analysis. For easy operation, an integrated HMI and a central, external HMI are available. The connection from the SCA application controller to the robot controller can be realized with all common industrial field bus systems.

Electric driven shot meter: ADKE 6000 series

The electric driven ADE/ADKE 6000 shot meters cover a wide range of body-in-white applications. Heavy duty construction for long lifecycle, a simplified installation and maintenance, need for only one single hybrid cable, and precise control with an accuracy of ±1% are some of the many advantages of this product. The 6000 series support a variety of application requirements, such as cold or heated delivery of one or two components.

  • Sizes: 10, 20, 80, 160, 400, 700, 2100 ccm
  • Max. pressure: up to 300 bar
  • Material flow: up to 20 ccm/s

Tandem shot meter for endless applications

The selection of the metering unit is dependent on the customers’ requirements for flow, volume, and pressure. SCA metering systems are optimized for highly precise applications. Due to the robust construction and high-power drives, SCA meters are suited for highly dynamic cold or heated applications in the most demanding environments. The tandem configuration of two shot meters working in parallel enables endless application. This reduces filling times and application pauses, thereby maximizing productivity.

  • Sizes: 80 - 2100 ccm
  • Max. pressure: up to 350 bar
  • Max. material flow: up to 170 ccm/s

Electric driven shot meter: ADKE 6000 series

For applications like gap filler in battery assembly, the SCA product line offers shot meters with large cross sections for high volumes. A heavy-duty construction for long life cycle, a simplified installation and maintenance, and a precise control with an accuracy of ±1% are some of the many advantages. The ADKE 6000 meter series comes in different versions to support a variety of application requirements such as one or two components, single and tandem configurations as well as cold or heated material delivery.

  • Sizes: 10, 20, 80, 160, 400, 700, 2100 ccm
  • Max. pressure: up to 300 bar
  • Max. material flow: up to 88 ccm/s

SCA shot meter ADKE 6000 (10ccm)

When applying glazing applications with a 2-component adhesive, two meters are used. The main component is applied using a large volume meter, in this case a 700ccm from our ADE 6000 series. The size of the second meter depends on the mixing ratio; often a 60ccm or even a 10 or 20ccm meter from our ADKE 6000 series is used.

The electric driven ADE/ADKE 6000 shot meters cover a wide range of applications and are a perfect fit for the SYS 6000 application control. Heavy-duty construction for a long life cycle, simplified installation and maintenance, requiring only one single hybrid cable, and precise control with an accuracy of ±1% are some of the many advantages of this product. The 6000 series also comes in different versions to support a variety of application requirements such as cold or heated delivery with up to six heating zones.

Mixing valve

Mixing valve for 2C applications

Typically used for their fast curing nature, two-component (2C) materials require specialized metering, mixing and dispensing systems. SCA provides fully automated two-component dispensing solutions. To achieve the highest mixing quality, our mixing valves meet special requirements:

  • Suitable for all common static mixers
  • Precise control of switching time and valve position
  • Carbide valve seats 
  • Materials are fed separately to the mixer inlet

Applicators

Applicator for body-in-white bonding: E-Swirl 2 AdX BIW

The SCA product line offers a range of bead and swirl applicators. The E-Swirl 2 AdX BIW applicator for example ensures an excellent material distribution with long-term quality assurance. It can handle three different applications: fixed beads, fixed swirl, and adjustable swirl applications. With flexible changes of width and constrictions as well as sharply contoured edges, the E-Swirl 2 AdX BIW can precisely align to the individual part geometry. That makes this applicator the perfect solution for hem flange bonding processes, one of the most challenging joining processes in body-in-white.

  • Fixed position: bead application
  • Adjusted position: swirl application 0.4 to 1.0 mm radius
  • Maximum position: swirl application 1.2 mm radius

Rotatable, multi-nozzle applicator for paint shop

For high-quality applications, customers can choose from a variety of rotatable, multi-nozzle applicators. By using a rotary applicator, the hose package does not restrict the flexibility of the robot and leads to a better accessibility. Multi-nozzle applicators enable the use of up to 4 different nozzles as well as different angles and positions. A re-circulation system to the nozzle is usually integrated to stabilize application conditions due to the material properties.

Rotary Drive applicator

A special applicator solution for applications requiring fast speeds and lower cycle time is the Rotary Drive applicator. This technology is able to maneuver quickly around window corners without stressing material hoses and cable packages. Due to its 360° rotation of the nozzle a high precision and reliable glazing application can be applied.

Ultimately, the type of nozzle that is selected in combination with the applicator determines the shape. In body shop applications, common bead and special swirl nozzles are used for structural bonding processes.

In paint shop applications, a wide variety of different nozzle types are used, such as flat stream, jet stream, multi-orifice, extrusion and airless nozzles.

Material supply

Double barrel pump with pump control for heated body shop systems

A reliable and robust material supply increases production uptime and reduces maintenance costs. All SCA pumps are designed for a long operational life and to minimize stress on the adhesives and sealants they handle. Both single and double barrel pumps are available. Double barrel models enable convenient replacement of material barrels, without disrupting production. The SCA pump control enables high-viscosity adhesive and sealant materials to be used as well as one or two component bonding systems.

UP 301 pump for larger material volumes

A reliable and robust material supply increases production uptime and reduces maintenance costs. All SCA pumps are designed for a long operational life and to minimize stress on the adhesives and sealants they handle. For 2-component applications, the material supply is similar to the shot meter layout. Often a large capacity piston pump is used for the main component, while a smaller pump is used for the second component. In this case the main component is controlled by our HPS 5000 pump control, while the second component is managed with a smaller pump control, the PCU 5000.

HPS 5000
The SCA pump control HPS 5000 enables high-viscosity adhesive and sealant materials to be used as well as one or two component bonding systems. In the layout above, this pump control and the UP301 pump are used for the main component. The UP301 is especially recommended for larger delivery volumes and high viscous polyurethanes (PUR). This pump is equipped with an additional heating circuit, which prevents residual material from hardening on the piston rod and significantly extends the service life of the pump’s seals.

1000 l barrel material supply

The SCA material supply solution for paint shop applications is available as 1000 l/300 gal barrel version. The utilized displacement pump UP 1200 is characterized by a very high volume flow and high pressure. The robust design of the UP 1200 enables a long lifetime and easy maintenance. In case of long distances from the material supply to the application cell, the UP 1200 can also be used as booster pump.

SCA PCU 5000 pump control

PCU 5000
The second component of a 2-component-application is often at a ratio of 1:50. For those small units a compacter and place-saving pump control comes handy. When working unheated and with low to medium viscosity materials the PCU 5000 is used. The PCU 5000 controls pump functions such as stroke monitoring, turning the pump off when a barrel is empty and transitions automatically to the second barrel when the first barrel is empty.

The SCA product line offers high-quality material hoses with impermeable internal coatings that are pressure-resistant up to 400 bar. Heated versions provide superior material temperature consistency.

System options

Vision inspection for quality inspection

Structural bonding processes in the body shop are particularly for safety critical applications. We offer an in-line visual quality control system that detects errors in width, continuity and position of the adhesive bead during the application.

  • Reduced quality costs: The vision system is integrated into the application head and immediately detects quality issues. Rework or scrap production are minimized.
  • High productivity levels: The vision system is an in-line process control system and hence does not require additional cycle time. High image processing frequency allows highest robot speeds. With the automatic bead repair functionality quality issues can be fixed where they appear.
  • Easy to use: Teach-in functionalities support machine operators and reduce start-up time. To make the vision solution easy to use, configurable parameters have been programmed in an intuitive manner.

Conditioning systems

Peltier conditioning system

PVC is a commonly used material for sealing the car body and its viscosity is highly sensitive to temperature fluctuations. To get constant application conditions, a Peltier conditioning system (PCS) can heat or cool the material regardless of ambient temperature. The PCS is fully integrated into the application system and can be operated from the application HMI.

PVC residuals on the nozzle is a well-known problem in paint shops The Borster NCS is a standalone nozzle cleaning system with an automatic switch-on functionality. It is easy to retrofit or install to your existing line without any hassle or time spent on training. Its user friendliness allows for quick maintenance with no tools needed. The pre-installed cleaning programs make sure that the Borster NCS delivers perfect cleaning results, all while keeping a low level of noise disturbance.

Tool change station

Paint shop production lines with a high variety of car models need flexible solutions. The SCA tool changing station allows the use of different nozzle shapes for various car designs. The whole nozzle carrier of an applicator can be exchanged automatically and equipping the nozzle can be optimally aligned to the car’s geometry. For different designs, diverse variants are available that can be flexibly adapted to customer requirements.
