A large-scale food production company in Clayton, Melbourne reached out to Atlas Copco Specialty Rental  in Victoria. They were investing in a new, more efficient compressor room and required a temporary oil-free compressed air solution to remain operational during the commissioning.  As we had supported them before with an emergency breakdown and a scheduled maintenance solution; they reached out again.

Ensuring consistent and safe production: The vital role of oil-free air for Australia’s top bread supplier

Our client is one of Australia’s top wholesale food producers, with products ranging from breads and pastries to sauces and dressings. Its main bread production plant is located separately in Clayton. The company relies on this plant as the country relies on them, being one of the major bread suppliers to restaurants, stores and food vendors in the area. Oil-free compressed air plays an important role in the industrial bread-baking process: from aeration to pneumatic conveying, over the distribution and mixing of ingredients. Since our client prioritizes a high-quality, efficient and safe production environment, they decided to invest in a new state of the art compressor room.

Avoiding downtime during the installation of a new compressor room

However, with this production site being one of the primary providers of baked goods in the area, production delays or even complete downtime for the two-week installation period would be damaging to the company’s brand reputation, revenue stream and supply chain. When Atlas Copco Specialty Rental was asked to come up with a solution, the first order of business was to draft a detailed and exhaustive plan. Specialty Rental then provided a ZT160 oil-free electric driven compressor, which supplied the necessary oil-free air flow– without any hiccups – over the course of two weeks.

Our client was able to complete the new compressor room installation process without any impact on their supply chain. “Our strength is the ability to make agility count,” says Hans Schumacher, Specialty Rental Account Manager for Victoria and Tasmania. “We had countless meetings on site, from inception to execution, ensuring that communication was upheld at every stage of the process.”

 

This approach alleviated the stress and concern normally associated with this process, allowing the customer to get on with the rest of the project. Safety and sustainability were on the agenda and tended to as well. “During our meetings, we accounted for staff safety in addition to all the technical provisions,” Hans explains. “We organized safety measures such as cable guards and an overhead power cable installation. And seeing as our client is deeply committed to sustainable production and business, we made sure our oil-free compressor ran on electricity instead of diesel.”

Our manufacturing facility needed to replace existing air compressors and a dryer system. Atlas Copco Rental understood our needs and provided a solution that prevented any production downtime.
