Nestle installs the new ZRVSD+ for their water plant in UAE

Screw compressors PET industry ZR

Nestle, the worldwide leader in food & beverages strives for the highest quality in all aspects of production and delivering the best value to its customers.

Compressed air has always been one of the critical utility and is often considered as food ingredient in the food and beverage industry. Nestle Water in UAE employs several Atlas Copco oil-free compressors but mainly for the 7-9 bar(g) applications however they have dedicated high pressure compressors for the 40 bar(g) application used for PET bottle blowing. Nestle Water in 2018 started its fast track project in Abu Dhabi’s ICAD 3 industrial area for a new 43,000 square meter state of the art facility producing 32,000 bottles per hour of 600 ml and 1,500 bottles per hour for 5 gallon containers.

Compressor installation in Nestle Water

Atlas Copco and Nestle teams worked together extensively to evaluate different compressed air solutions based on lowest operating and overall life cycle costs. Atlas Copco presented the new generation of variable speed drive (VSD) compressor the ZR VSD+ that comes with new water cooled twin HPM motors and a special design which inherently delivers an average 10% energy savings compared to the last generation of Z units. To top it the new ZR VSD+ was offered with a built-in heat of compression (HOC) MD dryers that delivers a dew point of -20 deg C with no additional energy consumption and mounted within the compressor package. This high quality 8 bar(g) compressed air when delivered into the dedicated high pressure booster becomes a source for both medium pressure (MP) and high pressure (HP) air coming from the same system. With the combination of HP and MP systems driven by VSD control and treated by the Heat of Compression air dryer, it was proved that Nestle could save between 40-50% energy compared to a conventional system which is used in the other Nestle plants.

Nestle always believe in using latest technology and innovations to bring value and improvement to our operations. Atlas Copco compressors are running in our plants across the region for many years mainly for medium pressure requirements. We are happy to be one of the first users of the new state-of-the-art oil free compressor combined with the high pressure booster that allows us to have a single supplier of both medium pressure and high pressure air. We trust Atlas Copco as a reliable partner who understands our environmental goals and works in ensuring we get the best systems that help us achieve these goals.

Ali Absi , Factory Manager at Nestle Water

Atlas Copco is very proud to have the first from the latest range of oil free screw compressors, the ZR160VSDFF+ delivered to Nestle. Moreover, combining the best technologies of medium pressure air and high pressure air allows us to demonstrate our leadership and best in class efficiency for both the 7-10 bar(g) systems but also for the 40 bar(g) systems used by the PET bottling industry.
