One way forward to reduce emissions in the operational phase is to shift from diesel to electric construction machines as this leads to in particular a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions. However, electric driven machines require access to electricity and the possibility of regularly charging which is not always the case at construction sites. A solution for this, is the new robust fast Z Charger since it is specially adapted for the tough environment on the projects. It can be connected directly to the grid, completely independent, alternatively connected to Atlas Copco's energy storage system, ZenergiZe, which offers access to electricity that has been charged in lithium-ion batteries. The energy stores can be charged when the load on the grid is at its lowest, e.g. at night, but can just as well be charged with the help of solar panels or other renewable energy. Therefore, the combination of Z Charger fast charger and ZenergiZe energy storage system is a flexible combination that significantly helps to reduce total emissions. The solution with the fast Z Charger together with ZenergiZe energy storage system works just as well as an extra charging station for electric cars and especially well in inaccessible areas where the electricity grid is weak.

This is an obvious trend with increased demand for climate-smart machines in the construction industry. Many of the construction companies need access to charge electric construction machines at the same time as the electricity grid is limited. With the increasing amount of electric driven machines on construction sites, the capacity of the power grid is not always enough, and this becomes most obvious in the morning when all the machines at the workplace shall start. A good local support to the grid and a solution of the problem, is the Atlas Copco ZenergiZe energy storage system. ZenergiZe energy storage systems meet operating and safety regulations in noise-sensitive environments such as events and construction sites in urban environments, and is also a good fit for powering telecom applications in remote locations and, in addition, the large units can operate in parallel with other energy storage systems and thus become the "brain" of a microgrid.

 

The ZenergiZe series consists of three different models with a wide range and different capacities; they are called ZBE, ZBP and ZBC. They have a rated power of between 15 - 500 kVA and energy storage capacity of 45 - 575 kWh, depending on the model, and can deliver low to high power for a long time.
